Personal training is an opportunity to work one-on-one with a qualified fitness specialist. GJF's personal trainer, Shawna, has the background, knowledge, and experience essential in designing a program that will work for you. The GJF mission is to provide you with the skills, strength, and knowledge to set and obtain your goals. I am committed to helping you reach your fitness goals in a motivational, knowledgeable and non-judgmental atmosphere.
My main responsibility as your personal fitness trainer is to assess, instruct, and coach both individuals and small groups in various exercises and activities. After conducting an initial fitness assessment I will establish a profile for each client so they have a "benchmark" to build from; allowing me to monitor progress so I know:
- Where the client is coming from
- How they got to where they are today
- And serves as a basis for me to reasonably project where they will be going in the near future
By continually evaluating my client's past and present physical fitness levels I help them to set and achieve realistic goals.
Some other activities I'm involved with as your personal fitness trainer also include (but are not limited to):
- Motivating clients
- Assisting clients in various breathing & stretching techniques
- Identify specific training wants & needs
- Actively observe client's exercise movements to minimize any risk or injury
- Develop instructional fitness programs based on client's individual needs
- Monitor and communicate client progress
- Demonstrate the bio-mechanics of prescribes exercises & any other physical activities
I will also consistently share new and relevant fitness/health/wellness information and other useful tools that can be used as a resource in regards to nutrition, weight control, and other lifestyle issues.

Why You Need a Personal Trainer
There’s a reason why celebrities and other highly successful people use coaches and trainers: IT WORKS.
And that is why so many people are turning to personal trainers to help them move from mediocre to excellence in their pursuit of health, fitness, weight loss, and wellness.
More than 91% of people who start an exercise program quit early—even before their new routine becomes a habit, and 61% will give up within the very first week!
Why? Because changing your lifestyle is hard. In spite of all the infomercials and ads claiming that you can lose weight and transform your body in thirty days (or six weeks at the longest), the truth is, getting fit requires a lifestyle makeover that takes
If any of these components are missing, the odds of success plummet.
The good news is that one component virtually guarantees the continued presence of the other two, and that is support--and support is the heart of what a good personal trainer provides.
A personal trainer helps with the time factorin two ways:
- Finding time in your schedule to actually work out
- Sticking with your program long enough to reach your goals.
A personal trainer supports you by looking at your schedule and finding ways to make fitness fit. A seasoned personal trainer has much wisdom in the area of time management and is a master at figuring out how to work exercise into even the busiest schedules. He/She can also design workouts that are both efficient and effective. Finally, a personal trainer can also provide the motivation that you need to keep going, long after you would have stopped what you were doing working out by yourself.
Determination is also an area that a personal trainer supports you in. At the beginning of your new fitness program, you have excitement, novelty and the joy of discovery to keep you going. But eventually, what used to be new and fun becomes old and boring. If determination fades, you will find yourself wandering off track in search of the next exciting pursuit.
As your Personal Trainer/Health Coach, I will help you to find the time in your schedule and help you to keep your determination to stick with the program long enough to reach your goals. I will remind you why you are doing what you are doing. I will get into your life and help you move past obstacles that arise, and I will help you learn to turn off the negative self-talk – while constantly reminding you of the rewards of making your new healthy life-style choices. I will keep you moving forward.
And finally, I will support you as your source for practical, step-by-step instructions for building health. While under the tutelage of a personal trainer, you do not have to design your own program of fitness, constantly wondering whether you are doing the right exercises in the right way. I will create a customized blueprint that will help you achieve your goals.
Don’t try to go it alone; we all need help.
Position yourself for success and watch us, as a team, make fitness and robust health become part of your life.
